Dave Hofmann


Dave’s research and consulting activities focus on topics such as decision-making, organizational change and design, and how leadership and organizational culture impact safety and errors within high-risk environments. He has presented his research or conducted executive development sessions internationally in countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates. In addition, he teaches courses in organizational behavior, leadership, and the complexities of middle management.

Dave was awarded the American Psychological Association’s Decade of Behavior Research Award in recognition of the applied implications of his work. In addition, he received a Fulbright Senior Scholar Award from the University of Giessen, Germany, where he also co-edited the book Errors in Organizations. He has served on government commissions under the direction of the National Academy of Sciences and the Department of Commerce. This work included improving safety culture in the offshore industry and reviewing the safety culture of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Dave has earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Furman University, a master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Central Florida, and a doctorate in industrial and organizational psychology from Pennsylvania State University.

Dave enjoys cycling, and he once competed on an eight-person team that completed the Race Across America, although he is quick to remind folks that was a few years and a few pounds ago!
