Alex Frelier


Alex serves as the Executive Development financial and budget officer with oversight and approval for financial activity within the group. He is focused on developing effective financial strategies, managing resources to improve financial performance, negotiating client, government and vendor contracts, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, leading fiscal year-end planning, and managing relationships and financial linkages between Executive Development and the related departments within the University.

He has 30 years of executive leadership and business experience in industry and in public accounting including roles in general management, M&A, international business development, and consulting. Prior to joining UNC Executive Development, he worked in large industrial corporations such as Burlington Industries and Oldcastle Inc, was a business owner, and a partner in a public accounting firm.

He holds a BSBA from UNC Chapel Hill, a Master of Accountancy from UNC Charlotte, and an MBA from Duke University. Additionally, he is a North Carolina licensed Certified Public Accountant.
